The phrase “health insurance in Florida” refers to private medical insurance plans that are sold to individuals, families and businesses throughout the state of Florida.
You can obtain a Florida health insurance policy through a few different types of entities such as private insurance companies, the state of Florida or even custom health insurance plans offered by your employer.
There are basically two types of medical insurance plans that are most popular with Florida consumers, these are PPO and HMO plans. Both of these health insurance products are classified as managed-care, that means at some point the insurance company has to approve medical care.
If you are new to the temporary health insurance florida market you may be wondering what the differences are between a plan that uses an HMO and a PPO network. The good news is as a licensed health insurance agent with the state of Florida I can easily explain the differences in layman’s terms, which are easy to understand for most consumers.
A PPO health insurance plan essentially allows you to use any medical provider you wish even if they are out of network, for a higher out-of-pocket cost. The health insurance company really does not involve themselves in the decision-making process very much. The only thing you have to get their permission for is surgery, that is not an emergency. Basically this is referred to as pre-admission, the insurer wants to confirm that the medical treatment you receiving is a medically necessary. Of course the hospital wants to make sure the insurance company is going to pay your medical bill.
An HMO health insurance plan is literally the exact opposite of the PPO health insurance plan. Unless it is a true medical emergency most HMO plans in Florida will not allow you to use out-of-network providers. Also in HMO is truly managed-care and you will be signed a physician that will want to sign off on all health care decisions.

There is no doubt people prefer private medical health insurance to public ones and they have valid reasons for that. Private policies have always been much better with no bureaucratic restrictions as seen with public services. People would go for public healthcare as a last resort when they do not seem to have much options left.
One of the main reasons people prefer private medical health insurance is because they get access to cleaner hospitals as they fear superbugs commonly contracted from public hospitals. Everyone loves, prefers and appreciates cleaner environment. No one would appreciate going to hospital for the treatment of a minor illness and returning home with an even bigger disease they have contracted from a hospital environment. There is some sort of a fear factor that pushes people towards private medical health insurance.
Another reason people find private medical health insurance invaluable is because they get access to specialists much quicker. They hate waiting and feel they are being let down by national services that put them on waiting times of up to 18 weeks before they can be seen by specialists. Time is money and people want to get rid of their illnesses as soon as possible so they get resume their daily routine activities. Waiting times often extend problems for people and may even lead to worsening health conditions. A system does really need to be put in place so patients receive prompt treatment from national hospitals however until then, private health care seems to be the best way out.
Some people prefer private medical health insurance because it enables them to choose their location of choice and receive better quality treatments. They can also choose their own consultant which is an added benefit as they can seek recommendations from others to decide what consultants to go for. Patients like flexibility and public healthcare systems are restricting in this regard.
