The Universal Life Church Has Much to Offer
When Kirby Hensley decided to start a church in 1959, his purpose was to have a church where all people were equal. Although Rev. Hensley himself had originally been a Baptist minister, The Universal Life Church placed no requirement or restriction on religion. He believed everyone should be able to practice however they wish.
The Universal Life Church is nondenominational and interfaith. One of its most popular benefits is the ability to become an ordained minister. There is no cost for becoming ordained, and the courses offered by the ULC are optional.
Some people become ordained for fun, while others have legitimate purposes. As ULC ordination is legal, there are many things you can do as a minister. From forming ministries to conducting wedding ceremonies, ULC ministers have been active for decades.
The motto of the Universal Life Church is “Do Only That Which Is Right.” Rev. Kirby’s belief was that traditional churches imposed too many restrictions on who could become ministers and the duties they could fulfill. Some of these restrictions have been based on gender and education. As the ULC does not impose any restrictions, it is an opportunity that is open to everyone.
Former President Lyndon Johnson, John Lennon, and Goldie Hawn are some of the most famous people who have been involved with ULC. However, many of the ordained ministers are average people. One does not need any special qualifications to be granted ordination. Anyone can have the title, rights, and responsibilities, simply by contacting the Universal Life Church with their request.
